• Sheriff Palmer has started an interdiction team with K9’s and deputies in the county. This unit is actively working different highways in the county looking for drugs and other offenses from offending criminals. 
  • Through work with the county commission, Sheriff Palmer was able to get take-home cruisers for all deputies. This not only allows for faster response times to calls, but also helps to deter crime in deputies’ neighborhoods.
  • Sheriff Palmer and the county commission have also worked together to increase the number of law enforcement professionals in Monongalia County.
  • Sheriff Palmer has fulfilled a 2016 campaign promise to provide body cams to every member of the force.
  • The sheriff’s department has been able to update tools used in the department since Sheriff Palmer’s election, including active shooter vests, new rifles, SRT and safer equipment. He has also adopted new computer reporting systems, which allow better coordination and collaboration with other departments on critical information.
  • Sheriff Palmer sends trainer deputies to various schools, churches, businesses & senior centers to provide active shooting awareness training.
  • The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department continues to work with various neighborhood watches throughout the community for citizens who want to help their local area be aware and safe.
  • Through a GHS Grant, Sheriff Palmer continues to fight drunk driving, distracted driving and underage consumption.
  • Since his election in 2016, Sheriff Palmer has made it a priority to seek crime prevention for all ages. He sends deputies to schools throughout the community to discuss bullying and respectful treatment of one another.
  • Sheriff Palmer himself believes in staying active with the youth of Monongalia County. You can often find him on tours and in sessions for various Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops at the Sheriff’s Office in Downtown Morgantown.
